Juego del palo is a traditional stick-fencing practice linked to the pastoral and rural world. Its study combines the analysis of techniques, the recovery of technical vocabulary and the relationship with other stick games in the Atlantic and Mediterranean sphere.[1][2]
Origin and debates
One of the most debated theories attributes the origin of juego del palo to the activity of camel drivers. José Víctor Morales Magyín examined this hypothesis in 1996 and concluded that it lacks sufficient documentary basis to be considered valid.[1]
Tradition and technique
The Centro Universitario del Palo Canario has worked to recover respect for tradition, documenting modalities, vocabulary and social contexts in which the game has survived as a practice of identity.[1]
