Fuerteventura's society has been shaped by production, mobility, ports, migration and the changing value of its landscapes.
The island was a decisive enclave in the seigneurial conquest begun in the early fifteenth century. La pobreza y la escasez de recursos impulsaron una emigracion masiva hacia Cuba y Venezuela en el siglo XIX, y hacia Gran Canaria y Tenerife en el siglo XX.
