She was born into the Segura family, tied to the circus for several generations, in the Guanarteme district of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Trained as a trapeze artist without a safety net, she developed a flying-balance technique that took her to the leading circuses of Spain, Europe and the United States, including the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus for twelve years.

In 1955 she returned to Spain to perform at Madrid's Circo Price, where she was received as a star, and in 1956 she doubled Gina Lollobrigida's trapeze scenes in the film Trapeze, directed by Carol Reed. She suffered several serious accidents during her career; after one of them she temporarily retired in 1960, although she returned to the ring in 1968 and bade farewell definitively in 1970.

Alongside the ring, she wrote fiction and essays on the circus world: Cuentos de circo, Trapecio. Conocimiento y técnica, Nacida para el circo, La víspera, El italiano and, later, Memorias de una trapecista. Autobiografía. Her relationship with poet and writer Natalia Sosa Ayala has also been the subject of recent public and literary recognition.
