José Luján Pérez

José Luján Pérez was born in Santa María de Guía in 1756 and died in 1815. The Real Academia Canaria de Bellas Artes identifies him as a major Canarian sculptor, active from the last third of the eighteenth century to the early nineteenth century.

His production focused on religious imagery and was distributed across several islands. The Academy also records attributed architectural interventions, including the upper storey of Casa Regental (1805) and Vegueta Cemetery, around 1811.

Luján Pérez's importance derives from this island-wide circulation and his role in consolidating a local sculptural language. Each specific attribution should follow specialist catalogues.
