María del Pino Marrero Berbel

She arrived in the Canary Islands as a child and entered the Luján Pérez School in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria as a teenager, a decisive space in her artistic training. She later studied Philosophy and Arts at the University of La Laguna and worked as a teacher of Spanish language and literature until retirement.

Her literary production moves between poetry, narrative and editing. La Grecia que hay en mí received the Tomás Morales International Poetry Prize in 1999, and Las mil y una received the City of Las Palmas International Poetry Prize in 2005. Books such as Los días quebrados, Los desiertos extraños, Fuga de relatos, Poemas impertinentes and Tendido cero show a sustained bibliography also present in anthologies and collective publications.

Writing coexists with painting, ceramics, illustration, photography and audiovisual work. In 2013 she launched El club de las poetas muertas, a project to recover the voices of Canarian women writers, and in 2019 presented Voces de la Escuela Luján Pérez at Casa de Colón. The Cabildo de Gran Canaria granted her the title of Adoptive Daughter of Gran Canaria in 2021.
