Bartolomé Cairasco de Figueroa holds a central place in the urban culture of sixteenth-century Las Palmas. From his ecclesiastical position he shaped a humanist network where literature, theatre, sacred music and intellectual sociability came together. His work and circle show that the Canaries were not only a military frontier or Atlantic stopover, but also a space of cultural production connected with the Golden Age.
