Musician, composer and producer

Pablo Díaz-Reixa, known as El Guincho, is a musician and producer born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1983. His work combines electronics, pop and sound montage linked to tropical and island imaginaries.

Early life

Pablo Díaz-Reixa was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on 14 July 1983. Before consolidating his solo project he took part in Coconot, an experimental electronic and pop experience. The name El Guincho came to identify his personal work.

Historical role

The Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona identifies Alegranza (2008) as a landmark of tropicalist psychedelia and Pop Negro (2010) as a further investigation of the pop song. The same source describes Hiperasia (2016) as a later turn in his discography.

Legacy

His importance in contemporary Canarian music lies in carrying references to island music, percussion, sampling and experimental pop into international circulation. This projection should be understood as part of an authorial and producing career, not as the sole representation of a diverse scene.
