Braulio

Braulio Antonio García Bautista was born in Santa María de Guía, Gran Canaria, around 1945/1946. He started out in contests and festivals, began his professional career in 1973 and restarted it in the Americas in 1983.

His public projection consolidated through the festival circuit of the 1970s. He represented Spain at the 1976 Eurovision Song Contest in The Hague with Sobran las palabras, finishing sixteenth. He collected awards at Benidorm, Alcobendas, Viña del Mar, Rostock and the Yamaha Song Festival, moved to the United States and sustained a Latin American career as singer, songwriter and composer for other performers and telenovelas.

Braulio’s cultural relevance for the Canary Islands combines his origin in Guía, the external circulation of Canarian popular song and institutional recognitions such as Hijo Predilecto of Santa María de Guía, the Can de Plata from the Cabildo of Gran Canaria and the 2026 Canary Islands Gold Medal.
