Néstor Álamo Hernández

Born in Guía de Gran Canaria on 27 February 1906, Néstor Álamo Hernández developed a career linked to writing, journalism, documentary research and musical creation. From 1930 he was connected with El Museo Canario, where he worked with documentary collections relevant to island history, and later with cultural projects of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria.

His role in the Casa de Colón and other heritage spaces on Gran Canaria defines him not only as a composer, but as a cultural mediator between archives, museums, the press and popular memory. In music, several of his songs entered the Canarian popular repertoire, especially around Gran Canaria and celebrations such as the Pino festivities in Teror.

He received the Canary Islands Prize for Research in 1989. He died in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on 24 March 1994.
