María Jesús Alvarado (Susi Alvarado)

Born on 27 September 1960, she spent part of her childhood and adolescence in the Sahara, where her parents worked. The Government of the Canary Islands' educational profile records teaching studies completed in 1981 and Psychology studies completed in 1986. This training coexists in her career with teaching, clinical psychology and cultural creation.

In 1980 she joined the team of the literature and arts magazine Puentepalo. Since the start of the 21st century she has pursued literary publishing alongside her own work in fiction, poetry and film projects. Her books include Suerte Mulana (2002), Extraña estancia (2006), Geografía accidental (2010), Sorimba (2012), Cuentos antiguos de Gran Canaria, created with Ana Cristina Herreros (2014), and Habitación 241 (2019).

Her audiovisual work includes La puerta del Sáhara (2006), which received Memorimage's prize for best historiographical contribution in 2007, and documentaries devoted to cultural figures and subjects. In 2023, Santa Brígida Town Council presented her as a writer, filmmaker, playwright and activist in a public activity on The Little Prince. These records show a sustained interdisciplinary practice without assigning her a single exclusive profession.
