International full-back
Manuel Pablo García was a historic Deportivo de La Coruña full-back, winner of La Liga, the Copa del Rey and Super Cups, and a Spain international.
Manuel Pablo García, associated with Bañaderos and Arucas in northern Gran Canaria, was one of the most reliable and highly regarded right backs in Spanish football in the early years of the twenty-first century. His development at UD Las Palmas gave him the technical and tactical foundations to make the jump to the elite level, and it was at Deportivo de La Coruña where he reached the peak of his career and achieved his greatest national and international recognition.
His time at Deportivo de La Coruña coincided with one of the most brilliant periods in the Galician club's history. Manuel Pablo was an active part of the team that won the Spanish League title in the 1999-2000 season, claimed the Copa del Rey, lifted the Supercopa de España, competed in top-level European competition, and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. In that context of collective excellence, Manuel Pablo established himself as one of the best full backs in European football.
His appearances in the senior Spanish national team were the natural recognition of that competitive level. His career demonstrates how Canarian football has contributed to Spanish sport not only through technically gifted attackers and creative midfielders, but also through elite defenders capable of competing at the highest European levels. Manuel Pablo represents the tradition of the Gran Canarian school in defence, a legacy built in the youth ranks and projected across the most demanding stages in European football.
