Los Roques de Anaga comprise Roque de Tierra, also called Roque de Dentro, and Roque de Fuera. The 2004 management plan describes them as two phonolitic rocks. [1]

The protection of the Roques de Anaga is linked to that of the surrounding massif. The natural park was designated in 1987 and reclassified as a rural park in 1994, when the rocks’ strict nature reserve was also established. Its ten hectares contain geological formations, bird breeding areas and habitats for endemic plants and animals. [1]

The outcrops’ isolation helped justify setting them aside for conservation and scientific study. The 2004 plan proposed research on pelagic seabirds and monitoring of the reserve’s threatened species, alongside measures to prevent the introduction of non-native species and control waste reaching the shores.
