Luisa Machado

Her musical training began in school choirs and continued with La Laguna's University Choir. In the 1970s she took part in Chácara, in a context of searching for popular, folk, rock and blues languages that belonged to the environment of the Canarian New Song movement.

At the beginning of the 1980s she joined Taburiente alongside Alberto Méndez. The recording A Tara, released in 1985, opened a period in which the group combined Canarian folk references with pop, rock and jazz. Machado remained with the group until 1994 and took part in several of its albums before starting her solo career.

Lágrimas de Elvira (1996), Una hora menos (1999), En brazos de blancas ideas (2002), Revuelta con Bonanza (2003) and Más por menos (2009) map out her own output. She later took part in Ait Nahaya, a project in dialogue with Amazigh music, and has been a member of Mambisa since 2020. Her work remains connected to migrant memory, island music and collaborative performance.
