Juan Hernández Sánchez was a painter, muralist and performance artist born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1956 and deceased in the same city in 1988. He developed a short career involving paintings, series and participation in Canarian group exhibitions.

Early life

Juan Hernández Sánchez was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on 12 May 1956. The identification source preserved in the catalogue presents him as a painter, performance artist and muralist, and records Architecture studies at the Universidad Politécnica de Las Palmas.

Historical role

Dated works and series include Vegetal (1976), Principio Fin, Balos y Eros (1977), El libro del té (1979), Los helados (1982), Las lámparas (1983), Cafeteras (1984-1985) and Poema del faro (1985-1986). This sequence places his production within little more than a decade without assigning each series an interpretation requiring a monographic study.

Legacy

He took part in group exhibitions at Canarian institutions and venues, including Casa de Colón, the Círculo de Bellas Artes de Tenerife, Castillo de la Luz and venues in La Laguna, Garachico, Gáldar and La Orotava.
