Inés Peraza de las Casas

Inés Peraza represents the continuity of the Canarian lordship between the late-medieval conquest and the political reorganisation of the sixteenth century. Her authority over Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Gomera and El Hierro was not merely patrimonial: it shaped family alliances, succession lawsuits, transfers of rights and the relationship between seigneurial islands and the Castilian Crown. When she died in 1503, she left a fragmented power structure that helps explain the archipelago's complex jurisdictional geography.
