The Junta de Canarias, established in 1978, had four presidents: Alfonso Soriano, Fernando Bergasa, Vicente Álvarez Pedreira and Francisco Javier Ucelay. Bergasa served twice. The Statute took effect in 1982; Jerónimo Saavedra was elected that December and appointed president of the provisional government in January 1983. The profiles follow the order of each person’s first presidency, from the Junta to the governments after the 1983 regional elections. Saavedra and Fernando Clavijo returned for separate periods in office. The collection includes deceased former presidents, living former presidents and the serving president, with current offices reviewed as of 14 October 2026.
