Historical Figures

The Canary Islands Statute of Autonomy was approved by Organic Law 10/1982 of 10 August, published in Spain's Official State Gazette on 16 August 1982 and in force from that same day. The law organised the Canary Islands' access to self-government within Spain's constitutional framework and established its basic autonomous institutions, including the Parliament, the Government and the President of the Autonomous Community. The milestone therefore belongs to 1982, not 1978: 1978 is the year of the Spanish Constitution that opened the general autonomous framework.
