During the July 2022 survey, seven active Bulwer’s petrel burrows with incubating birds were recorded on Roque Negro. The report distinguishes these confirmed nests from other cavities that only showed signs of occupation. [1]

Two people spent about forty-five minutes surveying the rock in 2022. Besides the seven incubating birds, they found eleven cavities with odour and droppings indicating recent occupation. The team therefore regarded its estimates as conservative: observed nests do not necessarily represent the entire colony. [1]

The summit held an unexpected detail: bananas lay among abundant yellow-legged gull droppings. The researchers interpreted these remains as a sign that gulls used the rock as a resting place and carried food there. [1]
