Michelle Alonso is a Paralympic swimmer born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 1994, a three-time champion in the SB14 100-metre breaststroke.

Early life

Michelle Alonso Morales was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on 29 March 1994. The Spanish Paralympic Committee records her in the S14, SB14 and SM14 swimming classes for athletes with intellectual impairment.

Historical role

She made her Paralympic debut at London 2012 with gold in the 100-metre breaststroke. She retained the title in Rio 2016 and won the same event again at Tokyo 2020. The Committee also records that she was the first athlete with intellectual impairment to carry Spain's flag at a Paralympic opening ceremony.

Legacy

Her retirement from elite competition was officially communicated to the Spanish Paralympic Committee. These results place her career in the history of adapted swimming in the Canary Islands and Spain.
