Writer, artist and cultural critic
Josefina Plá was a writer and artist born on Lobos Island in 1903, whose intellectual and creative career developed mainly in Paraguay.
María Josefina Plá Guerra Galvany was born on Lobos Island on 9 November 1903. Her origin ties her to the Canarian archipelago; in 1908 her family moved to mainland Spain.
In the late 1920s she settled in Paraguay, where she developed wide-ranging literary, critical and artistic work. After her husband's death in 1937 she returned to Paraguay and continued a career linked to cultural institutions, teaching and research.
Her presence in a Canarian catalogue should be understood through this island origin and an Atlantic network, without displacing Paraguay's central place in her life and work.
