Composer and conductor
Emilio Coello Cabrera is a composer, orchestral and choral conductor, and teacher born in Charco del Pino, Granadilla de Abona. His catalogue combines symphonic, choral, chamber and electroacoustic writing with Canarian cultural references.
After early training in solfeggio and clarinet with Candelaria's Las Candelas band and at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Higher Conservatory of Music, he moved his studies to Madrid's Royal Higher Conservatory of Music in 1984. There he broadened his training in performance, composition and conducting.
His output includes orchestral, choral, chamber and electroacoustic works. Among his most widely performed pieces is Altahay, a concerto for timple and orchestra premiered in 2001, alongside adaptations and compositions linked to Canarian repertories and texts.
He has also worked as a teacher and choral conductor. The Royal Canarian Academy of Fine Arts appointed him a corresponding member in 2016, with his public reception held in 2017.
