Cristina Gámez Armas

Cristina Gámez Armas was born in San Cristóbal de La Laguna on 22 November 1964. She is a creator trained in Philosophy and Fine Arts, whose career treats textile as technique, material and metaphor.

In 1987 she produced a first fashion collection sponsored by the Government of the Canary Islands. From 1991 she took part in the project Vídeo-danza por Arnaldo Patterson; these milestones help explain the movement from textile research to a practice that does not separate art, design and the body.

Her work uses fabrics, felt, thread, photography, methacrylate and other materials, and has been shown in collective exhibitions and national and international circuits. Works such as Los amantes de Dresde, Tramoya and Despliegue belong to public collections: TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, CAAM and the Museo Municipal de Santa Cruz de Tenerife. A 2021 interview in Diario de Avisos notes that she is already included in the Biblioteca de Artistas Canarios collection with the book Cuestionando códigos, with text by Yolanda Peralta Sierra.

Beyond her visual production, she has designed costumes for film, taught at the Escuela de Actores and substituted classes at Fine Arts.
