Cristina Gámez Armas

Cristina Gámez Armas was born in San Cristóbal de La Laguna on 22 November 1964. The Biblioteca de Artistas de Canarias presents her as a creator trained in Philosophy and Fine Arts, whose career treats textile as technique, material and metaphor.

In 1987 she produced a first fashion collection sponsored by the Government of the Canary Islands. From 1991 she took part in the project Vídeo-danza por Arnaldo Patterson; these milestones help explain the movement from textile research to a practice that does not separate art, design and the body.

Her work uses fabrics, felt, thread, photography, methacrylate and other materials, and has been shown in collective exhibitions and national and international circuits. The institutional source also documents her presence in Los pliegues del tiempo in Tenerife and in the travelling exhibition Pintura Canaria del Siglo XX in 2010.
