The first issue of Diario de Avisos, dean of the Canarian press, is published in Santa Cruz de La Palma.

On 1 July 1890, the first issue of the newspaper founded by the Gran Canarian printer José Esteban Guerra Zerpa was published in Santa Cruz de La Palma; it initially bore the masthead El Artesano and adopted the definitive name Diario de Avisos from the following day. It is the oldest newspaper in the written press of the Canary Islands and one of the longest-running Spanish-language newspapers in the world. After being acquired by Canavisa, it moved its headquarters to Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 1976, from where it continues to be published as a reference news outlet of the archipelago.
