Eruption of the Chinyero volcano, the last historical eruption recorded in Tenerife.

On 18 November 1909, the Chinyero volcano erupted in northwestern Tenerife, between the municipalities of Santiago del Teide and El Tanque. The eruption, preceded for months by precursor phenomena —reactivation of the Teide's fumaroles, underground noises and tremors— lasted ten days and destroyed several crop fields under its ash and lapilli flows, although it caused no fatalities. More than a century later, Chinyero remains the last historical eruption recorded in Tenerife, making its study a fundamental reference for assessing volcanic risk on an island that is today far more populated.
