Geologist and Paleontologist

Telesforo Bravo Expósito was a geologist and naturalist born in Puerto de la Cruz in 1913.

Early life

Telesforo Bravo Expósito was born in Puerto de la Cruz on 5 January 1913. He died on 7 January 2002. He trained as a national schoolteacher, studied Natural Sciences in Madrid and specialised in geology and hydrology.

Historical role

His doctoral thesis was titled Estudio Geológico y Petrográfico de la Isla de La Gomera. At the University of La Laguna he was an interim associate professor from 1960 and in 1966 obtained the chair of Geology as professor of Petrology and Geochemistry.

Legacy

His work is linked to geology, hydrogeology, volcanology, groundwater and Canarian natural heritage. He received the Canary Islands Prize for Research and Innovation in 1989. In 2009 the IES Puerto de la Cruz was renamed Puerto de la Cruz: Telésforo Bravo.
