Facundo Hernández Gutiérrez

He was born in Tegueste on 11 August 1938. An interview collected in the school project 96 Personajes en la vida de Tegueste describes a childhood of family work and his early connection with the municipality's caves and ravines.

Between 1946 and 1970 he collaborated with Luis Diego Cuscoy in surveys and excavations in the Agua de Dios ravine. The 2015 study by Alfredo Mederos Martín, Gabriel Escribano Cobo and Vicente Valencia Afonso records that in 1969 Hernández and Juan Daniel Darias relocated a burial cave, found necklace beads and began a seven-month excavation campaign under Diego Cuscoy's supervision.

His public trajectory was also linked to craftsmanship and local memory. He took part in Tegueste's Romería de San Marcos by making elements for the carts and assembled at his home in Los Catalanes a collection of craftwork and old objects.
