Droughts, famines, plagues and depopulation strike Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

The council records of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura document an irregular succession of severe droughts, shortages, plagues, hunger and emigration between 1628 and 1671. The climate study does not support isolating 1648 as an archipelago-wide crisis: evidence for 1648 and 1649 is sparse. The milestone is therefore presented as a long process confined to the eastern Canary Islands.
