The Canary Islands become a single province with its capital in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The Law of 27 January 1822 constituted the Canary Islands as a single province and made Santa Cruz de Tenerife its capital, with jurisdiction over the whole archipelago. The measure introduced an administrative level between central government and municipalities and reduced the institutional role of the former island bodies. This replaces the incorrect date of 1833: the single Canarian province had already been established in 1822.
