- Feast of Our Lady of SorrowsLanzarote celebrates 15 September, the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows (also called of the Volcanoes), its patroness, venerated at the hermitage of Mancha Blanca (Tinajo); it is a public holiday across the island. The great pilgrimage in her honour takes place on the preceding Sunday, and the devotion dates back to the 1730–1736 Timanfaya eruptions, when the image was carried in procession to halt the lava.
- Feast of the Virgin of La PeñaMovable date: varies by yearFuerteventura's patronal feast is held on the third Saturday of September at Vega de Río Palmas (municipality of Betancuria), around the sanctuary of the Virgin of La Peña, patroness of the island. It is a public holiday across the island, and on the eve pilgrims arrive from all over Fuerteventura in a pilgrimage offering.
