Music career

CanariWiki places his first public performances in the Canary Islands in his teens and his entry into Taller Canario de Canción in 1985, after music studies at the conservatoire. With Taller he took part in Nueva Canción Canaria and recorded several albums before leaving the group and moving to Madrid in 1993. From there he released Golosinas in 1995, expanded his catalogue with albums such as Tan cerca de mí, Mararía, Raíz and Ofrenda, and maintained a singer-songwriter career with collaborations, film music and tours. RTVE summarises that trajectory as a move from Tenerife to Taller and then to Madrid without losing his connection with the Canary Islands; the Canary Islands Government presents him in 2024 as performer and composer within Identitaria Canarias.

Contribution

His contribution combines two scales: the island renewal of Canarian song through Taller Canario de Canción and the national projection of an authorial repertory that circulated his compositions through albums, concerts, film music and other performers’ voices. For CanariasHistoria he matters especially because his career links Güímar, La Laguna, Nueva Canción Canaria, Madrid and a contemporary scene that continues to dialogue with later generations of Canarian musicians.

Style

The sources place him within singer-songwriter music, with guitar and voice at the centre, and with learning marked by Latin American traditions, Serrat, Aute and other authorial repertories cited in his El País interview. In Taller, writing intersects with Canarian folklore and social song; in the Madrid stage it opens to authorial-pop arrangements, film music, poetic repertory and collaborations across generations. Raíz explicitly marks a return to Canarian materials within his catalogue.

Repertoire

The documented repertory includes his Taller songs, the album Golosinas and pieces such as Contamíname, later singer-songwriter albums, the soundtrack for Mararía, the return to Canarian materials in Raíz and recent collaboration projects such as Parceiros. This profile does not attempt to close a complete discography: it uses BNE, CanariWiki and official pages to select verifiable works.

Legacy

His legacy can be read in the continuity of Canarian singer-songwriter music beyond a strictly folkloric frame. The presence of Cruz Cafuné and Valeria Castro on recent official Parceiros songs shows that his work maintains connections with Canarian artists from different generations and languages, while Identitaria Canarias includes him in an institutional conversation on music and island identity.

Canary Islands connection

The Canarian connection is documented through his birth in Güímar, training and early performances in Tenerife, his period in Taller Canario de Canción and his recurring return to stages and cultural debates in the archipelago.
