The island is part of a highly fragile marine and land environment, with beaches, seabeds, islets and coastal habitats.

A small, luminous island: pale sand, soft cones and an almost uninterrupted marine horizon.

Among its main reference points are Domestic scale, Protected landscape, Recent recognition, which connect landscape, memory and everyday life. Island nature is best understood as a relationship between ecosystems and human uses, not as scenery separated from history.

Key points

Chinijo Archipelago Nature Reserve

La Graciosa and the surrounding islets form part of one of the largest strict nature reserves in Spain; access to most of the islets is prohibited in order to protect the wildlife.

Unspoilt beaches and seabeds

The beaches of La Graciosa, especially Playa de las Conchas and Playa Francesa, are among the cleanest in the archipelago; their seabeds preserve exceptional biodiversity.

A coastline without development

The absence of large-scale development is the main environmental feature of La Graciosa; buildings are confined to Caleta de Sebo and Pedro Barba, and there is barely any road infrastructure.

Birdlife of the islets

The Chinijo islets are a breeding area for shearwaters, storm petrels and other seabirds; protecting these spaces is one of the central aims of the Nature Reserve's management.
