His work combines poetry and fiction. Institutional sources place the first edition of Mararía in 1973, while Cerveza de grano rojo belongs to 1984. The Academia Canaria de la Lengua also records stage adaptations of Mararía from 1985 and its 1998 film version.
In 1988 he received the Canary Islands Prize for Literature together with Isaac de Vega. His legacy is associated with the renewal of Canarian fiction and with the symbolic force of Mararía in Lanzarote's literary imagination.
