Journalist and short-story writer
Josefina Zamora Lloret was a journalist and short-story writer based in the Canary Islands. Her work published during her lifetime was brief, but La mirada infinita and her work in journalism and literary research place her among the distinctive voices of twentieth-century Canarian literature.
She was born in Alicante in 1920 and completed secondary school at Gran Canaria's Pérez Galdós Institute. She studied teaching and belonged to the first cohort of Journalism in the Canary Islands. Her professional work appeared in El Museo Canario magazine and newspapers including El Eco de Canarias, El Noticiero del Lunes, La Provincia and El Día.
Her study of the literary and arts weekly La Aurora appeared in 1980. Fourteen years later she published La mirada infinita, a volume of thirty-six stories. Institutional criticism highlights her clear language and use of ambiguity and double meanings in texts open to more than one reading.
She was married to the writer Ventura Doreste. After both had died, their library and archive entered the University of La Laguna as the Doreste-Zamora Fund, a collection of thousands of volumes preserving an important part of Canarian literary and cultural memory.
