Digna Palou Cruz was a poet born in Tacoronte in 1927 and deceased in Tenerife in 2001. She published five poetry collections between 1967 and 1987, and her complete poetry was posthumously edited by the Government of the Canary Islands in 2019.
Digna Palou Cruz was born in Tacoronte on 10 October 1927. She studied Law at the University of La Laguna and, after moving to Madrid, broadened her training in children's storytelling, librarianship, archives, documentation and languages. The chronology of these activities shows a sustained relationship with books and writing before her poetry bibliography was established.
Árbol tendido appeared in 1967. It was followed by Nudos (1973), Isótopo 56 (1974), Isla de septiembre (1977) and Rumor de límites (1987). The dates and publishers of this sequence make it possible to present a body of work concentrated in five collections over two decades, without assigning themes that require textual or critical evidence.
After her death, De nardos y brisas. Poesía completa was published in 2003. In 2019 the Government of the Canary Islands issued a new Poesía completa with a critical introduction by Covadonga García Fierro. That institutional edition is a milestone for the accessibility and contemporary study of her work.
