His career combines composition, teaching and cultural promotion, with a very close relationship to the Fiestas Lustrales de La Palma and to the island’s intellectual life. He was also an academician and prolific composer.
His importance lies in having given musical form to long-running La Palma celebrations and in having joined musical creation, public life and island culture. He is among the major references of twentieth-century Canarian music.
His work unfolds in choral, religious, stage and ceremonial works. The focus is not on a market label, but on composition linked to the Bajada de la Virgen, liturgy and La Palma’s festive memory.
