The Mistake was a Tenerife band whose album Polaroids, released in 2005 and reissued in 2012 by El Hombre Bala Records, pushed the group towards BCore Disc, the label that would publish Anticongelante and 4 before the split in 2010. Polaroids was recorded at Estudios Guamasa in 2004.
Its relevance lies in connecting Tenerife’s alternative scene with Spanish independent labels and with later Canarian record memory. Polaroids is an essential recording in the history of Canarian alternative music, justifying its presence in a historical catalogue rather than only in a list of recent bands.
Their post-hardcore base gradually incorporated melody, contemporary-pop resources and alternative-rock guitars. That sound was linked to reference points such as Nueva Vulcano, Interpol, Futureheads, Sr. Chinarro and Los Planetas, as stylistic orientation rather than direct equivalence.
The Mistake’s transmission rests on four albums, reissues, concerts outside the Canary Islands and El Hombre Bala Records’ recovery of Polaroids. Its case shows the importance of Guamasa Estudios, BCore and local labels in professionalising island alternative rock.
The second album consolidates the group’s regional and national projection.
The group splits before the Polaroids reissue.
