Ska punk band
Skachaos is a Gran Canaria ska-punk band born in Telde in 2001, documented by Canarias Crea for its appearance at Getafe’s Konciertos festival programme.
The Canary Islands Government documents Skachaos as emerging from three young Canarians’ intention to take part in a secondary-school music gathering in 2001. In 2002 it recorded a first nine-track demo and began performing in Gran Canaria and Tenerife. After line-up changes and a second demo, the band was included in 2010 in the ska-punk programme of Getafe’s fiestas with Canarias Crea support.
Skachaos matters because it shows the presence of protest-oriented ska punk in early twenty-first-century youth culture in Gran Canaria. Its trip to Getafe through a public mobility programme places the band within a Canarian scene seeking spaces beyond the archipelago.
The institutional source describes a mix of reggae, hardcore and Latin rhythms over a ska base, with protest lyrics and punk and ska influences. That combination places it between festive ska and political punk in youth circuits.
