Escorbuto Crónico was a La Laguna punk band formed in 1977, a pioneer of punk in the Canary Islands.
Escorbuto Crónico originated in La Laguna in 1977, around Tomás Olivera, Zurda, and a line-up that stabilised in 1979. Documentación appeared in 1982, a key recording of early Canarian punk. The career was brief, but it remained associated with punk’s arrival in Tenerife and with later musicians in the island scene.
Its relevance is historical: it dates a Canarian punk scene before its recording and institutional consolidation. It is a seminal and precursor group, making the entry necessary so the history of Canarian music does not begin alternative rock in the 1990s.
The style belongs to early punk: a reduced line-up, direct songs and a rough sound. Documentación works less as an industrial product than as testimony to a youth scene adapting international punk language to Tenerife’s urban reality.
Escorbuto Crónico’s transmission depends on recordings, specialist archives and scene memory. Its relationship with musicians such as Zurda links early Tenerife punk with other paths in the islands’ critical and alternative rock.
