Esclavitud is a La Laguna heavy-metal band formed in 1996, one of the longest-running careers in the Canarian underground scene.
Esclavitud is based in San Cristóbal de La Laguna and has been active since the mid-1990s. It was created in early 1996 with musicians from several Tenerife bands. After an initial stage as Slavery, the band adopted the name Esclavitud and released a discography including Involución, Condenados al Paraíso, Return to Eden and Stronger than a God.
Its importance lies in sustaining a classic and progressive heavy-metal line from Tenerife for decades, with presence at Canarian and mainland festivals such as Leyendas del Rock. Island distance is a common constraint for Canarian bands, making its continuity culturally relevant.
The style combines classic heavy metal, melody, rhythmic changes and progressive features, with references to 1970s and 1980s rock, hard rock and current prog metal; recent recordings maintain a voice, guitar, bass and drums structure with careful production inside and outside the island.
Esclavitud’s transmission is built through albums, demos, festivals and the organisation of spaces such as Laguna Rock with La Laguna’s city council. Its career helps explain a persistent Canarian metal scene connected with local studios such as Guamasa and with international production.
