Latin pop and pop rock group
Efecto Pasillo is one of the Gran Canaria bands that most visibly projected island pop into Spain’s national circuit in the 2010s, mixing rock, funk, pop and Latin song.
The Canary Islands Government documents Efecto Pasillo as founded in mid-2007 with Iván Torres on vocals, Nauzet Barreto on guitar, Arturo Sosa on bass and Javier Moreno on drums. After winning the Sala Paraninfo band contest in June that year, they recorded the demo En el aire. Their debut album, Efecto pasillo, was presented in 2010 through a tour supported by Canarias Crea, with dates in Fuerteventura, Murcia, Madrid, Vigo, Barcelona, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote.
The group’s importance lies in connecting pop made in Gran Canaria with national media, radio networks and mainland tours while retaining a register recognisable to Canarian audiences. Songs such as Chacho, Pan y mantequilla and Cuando me siento bien helped a band from the local circuit enter the pop memory of the decade.
The Canary Islands Government described their first album as streetwise funk with rock foundations, catchy choruses and direct melodies. Later repertory broadened that formula towards Latin pop, festive songwriting and large-format live performance, retaining guitar, bass, drums and voice as the instrumental core.
Efecto Pasillo’s continuity is transmitted through albums, videos, radio formats, festivals and collaborations with artists from outside the archipelago. Their career helps explain the professionalisation of a generation of Canarian bands moving between local venues, digital platforms, national programmes and mainland tours.
The band forms and wins the Sala Paraninfo band contest.
