Teacher, education inspector and researcher
Germán González González was a teacher, education inspector and researcher of La Palma's school history. He promoted educational innovation, the preservation of educational heritage and gives his name to Santa Cruz de La Palma's Museum of the History of Education.
He was born in Santa Cruz de La Palma on 11 April 1940 and trained at La Laguna's Teacher Training College and the University of Valencia. From 1960 he taught at several schools on La Palma and between 1964 and 1971 collaborated with the Island Academy of Teacher Training and Commerce.
His work at Santa Cruz de La Palma's Sector Sur school was tied to trials of the General Education Law and to organisational and pedagogical innovation projects. He directed the Island Centre for Adult Education and was tutor and secretary of La Palma's UNED Associated Centre in its early years.
In 1984 he founded the Rayas Collective and Association, the origin of the museum, library and archive devoted to the history of education on La Palma. His research, work as an inspector and recovery of school and historical texts were recognised with the Viera y Clavijo Distinction and the Encomienda with Medal of Alfonso X the Wise.
