Nieves Buenafuente Alonso was born in San Cristóbal de La Laguna on 30 July 1941. A teacher specialising in natural sciences, she developed most of her career in Tegueste, linking classroom work with direct observation of the environment and collective projects at CEIP Teófilo Pérez.
She completed secondary education at La Laguna Institute and teacher training at La Laguna Teacher Training School. She entered the teaching corps in 1962; the 1965 BOE records her presence on the teaching scale. After several postings, she arrived at Tegueste's Teófilo Pérez School in the 1979-1980 academic year.
There she taught Natural Sciences in the second stage of EGB and, in later years, Technology in the first cycle of secondary education. The oral-history interview of the 96 Personajes en la vida de Tegueste project describes a field-based practice that took part of learning to ravines, ponds and paths in the municipality, where pupils observed, recorded and collected samples for later laboratory analysis.
She remained linked to Teófilo Pérez until her retirement in 2001; from 1998-1999 she also taught at Tegueste Secondary School. Her profile recognises science teaching grounded in the experience of the nearby environment and cooperative work, within the building of Tegueste's educational community.
